Default Thump going over bumps

Ok...

My S2000 has been making a pretty loud thump in the rear when going over some bumps, but when I hear the noise the most is when I drive over the reflectors on the street.. it's so loud it's ridiculous. At first it favored the passenge rear, now it seems to be coming from the rear in general.

This happened before I had CV joints replaced at Honda.. I figured it was that.. nope...

I was then convinced it was my shocks..

Bought 03 shocks with 3000 miles..

Noise continues..

WTF?

This is very annoying - My friend said this happened to his mothers civic and it had something to do with something about the brakes that also is part of the suspension..

pls halp

Hey Viper,

No spare tire
Definetely not loose lug nuts
We did the shock towers when we replaced the suspension and made sure it was tight.

The only one I can't figure out is the loose wheel weights, would this even make that loud a noise?

I haven't replaced wheels or tires in awhile and plan to do both soon but been trying to get this situated first.

The car also rides like crap sometimes in the back when that happens could this be the wheel weights as well?

My friend and I changed the suspension on my car, hes done another S2000 before so I pretty much trusted it.

One thing he did that I'm not so sure of is..

When we were doing the rear he told me we had to 'compress' the spring while it was on the car and how he did this was putting a jack under the control arm and jacking it up about 100 ft lb/torque on both sides

The car was noticeably lower when he did this - Is that proper?

We haven't had a chance to do the front yet though is the same required?

One of the reasons I've reduced considerable my input on "noise" threads. A "thump" to you may mean something different to someone else. Yes, a loose wheel weight can make a pretty loud noise. Whether it be your "thump" is debatable as I don't have any idea what your "thump" sounds like.
You also didn't specify if the noise happens upon suspension compression or upon extension.

ps. I'm sure this is not the case with you, but a funny anecdote nevertheless ................ Someone had a funny noise coming from one of the rear wheels. The investigation was exhaustive and resulted in no joy. The owner lived with this noise for the years. When the tires finally needed replacing, it was found that the last time the tire was mounted, the guy at the tire shop purposely placed a very large nut inside the tire before sealing up the bead. I guess he just quit and it was his last tire job before leaving an unhappy working environment.

Well, I'm fixing to get the tires replaced so I'll have them look at it..

Outside of that - I mean, I'm no mechanic by a long stretch so when I hear sounds I get completely frustrated cause I have no idea what could be the cause. This one in particular I figured to be the shocks because it was happening specifically over bumps..

What other suspension parts could I go about replacing besides springs/shocks? =/

Also, if this is of any help for u guys to help me track this problem down.

It only does it when I go over bumps..

BUT..

If I open the trunk and climb on it and bounce on the car it will NOT make the noise at all..

I've merged your question in your other thread to this one, as they pertain to the same topic.
