yeah when people describe the noise as "a sports card flapping on bicycle wheel spokes" they hit the nail on the head, that is the best way to describe that noise and not confuse it with something else.

The chain can and does run whisper quiet.

If it doesn't, and the tct fix did not help, then a more agressive tct may fix it.

If not, your chain, guides, and possible sprockets are worn. No ticking at all is acceptible from the chain.
Replace chain, sprockets, and or guides on a unit with 40,000 miles?? With the same factory parts that led to the ticking in the first place? Unless of course some of these parts have been revised which I'm not aware of. Already tried increasing the oil inlet port size of one of my TCTs to no avail nor even any change in symptom. Of course short of repalcing a bunch of running gear parts only to eventually end up with the same symptom in the near future is not enticing either. I'd consider one of your modified TCTs if I could be certain that it would remedy the symptom. Like I mentioned ,my symptom is not an overtly obvious fluttering but more of a slight one that seems to diminish once the engine is warmed up.

Looks like I'll try the TCT again and if no joy, get a replacement. Sorry for the late reply, I thought I was subscribed.

So while I'm here, another question about the TCT fix. I'm relatively mechanically inclined but can't for the life of me figure out why you'd want a matte surface on the worm gear in the TCT. Is a new OEM part matte or silky smooth?

The Tct is the underlying cause of the issue. If the problem is allowed to persist, yes it can prematurely wear out the chain and guides.

Well re-sandblasted the little thingamabob today and it's quiet again. We'll see how long that lasts.
