Default Time for an oil change...

would it be 'safe' to switch to synthetic? I bought the car used, I don't know how bad/if the engine has been semi-abused or not. The dealer did an oil and filter before I bought it (HONDA store/OEM parts/fill).

Since I don't know the TRUE history, I'm a little apprehensive about switching to a full synth. oil.

2003, 60K on the clock, Honda certified used.

Any thoughts?

I did this when the car was at ~40k miles. From dino oil to 5w30 mobil 1, with no problems...

Just make sure you get the proper oil filter from Honda as they gave me a smaller one the first time i bought oil/filter and did my change.

Thanks for the response. If I only had 40K, I would not hesitate. At 60K....that makes me think a little more.
I only drive a short (4miles) each way to work, before it was 40 each way. I guess I'm looking for a more stable product, so I won't feel THAT bad when I change the oil every 3.5K miles. I do take her out for a couple of long drives every weekend, but it's not the same.

You'll have no ill side effects if you change to a synthetic and a good filter.

To reiterate, make SURE you get the right filter as everybody wants to put a tiny one on this car which is NOT correct.

R3DS2K - thanks, but at 5K it would be miles away from 60K.

Some Dealers are selling the Filtech filter with the PCX part # on it. The best filter is the one made by Toyo Roki.

It's the same company, Toyo Roki and Filtech.
