I switched mine at the 30K service when I bought it a few months ago (also a 2003). I burned up exactly one quart of syn in the next 3000 miles. I added a quart of high mileage syn and i'm only down 1/3 quart on the next 2,000 miles. I'll probably switch to high mileage full syn next full oil change to see if the burn off is even less.

You need to read road rage's extensive oil journal posts. 3500 oil changes on syn is a huge waste of money. They say you can go 15,000+ but i'm going 7500 on each change with top off adds until the 7500 mark. Easy to remember

If you know nothing of the extended drain intervals, you should read car and drivers long term car tests. they have bmw / mercedes / porsche testers (factory syn fill) going nearly 20,000 miles on oil changes with oil monitoring sensors. And you know they are floggin the hell out of them.

old habits are hard to break

I hear ya. I read the 'oil journal'. On previous cars/trucks, I was going 6K with a filter and top off at 3K - or there abouts. But I was doing 400 to 500 miles a week. Now if I break 100 miles a week I'm impressed with myself.

different life, different times.

My concern (unjustified or not), is my short trips. I know that any good conv. oil will hold up for 3K, even on short trips. Since I DO NOT have any where to do my own oil changes and I have to go to the EX's house (my garage/tools) to do it. i would rather extend the time I need to go there by as much as possible.

hence, the questions....my life's story in a nutshell

If you change it religiously every 3k, going to syn might be overkill. I do believe oil can be pushed to 5000+ and maybe even more on syn, and I could also wash my hair every other day liek dermatologists recommend. Anyway, I think I may go back to a good quality dino oil, but in regards to your question, there should be no ill effects. I bought my car used, god only knows what kind of oil was in it before, but I;ve used Mobil 1 ever since and burn about 1/2 quart between 3K change. I put about 20K on the car.

It's the same company, Toyo Roki and Filtech.
Filtech is a subsidary of Toyo Roki. What's your point?

R3DS2K - thanks, but at 5K it would be miles away from 60K.
ok my 94 accord had 150000 miles and i switched.. i have no clue whats been used or done to the car.. no history nothing

switched to synthetic and have 209000 miles on it now..

no problems yet.... haven't done any major service .. just bunch of oil changes ever 3k and switched clutch once

now i have swap the motor out at 209000 with another lower mileage motor with around 30k miles.. using synthetic again.. no problems yet.. got 500 miles on car since motor swap
