Default Timing Chain

Does this ever need to be replaced?

On our TL we had to replace the timing belt at 105K. How long does the chain last on the S?

Thanks,
Rob

It never needs to be replaced. Unless of course something happens but I don't recall seeing one fail without something else going wrong first.

In general, timing chain is a better implementation than timing belt. The advantage of the latter is reduced cost of manufacture, and perhaps a slight noise reduction. Somehow, I would imagine that the extreme high rpm capability of the S2000 makes a belt less desirable (reliable??) than a chain. Note also that the fairly inexpensive Honda Fit also uses a timing chain, perhaps necessitated by its 7500 rpm 1.5 liter VTEC engine.

Keep the timing chain tensioner working, however. If the chain is not tensioned properly it (and the gears it runs on) can get prematurely worn.
