i have the infamous 'ticking sound'. maybe im stupid but i cant really tell if the ticking gets faster when i rev or whether the ticks are consistent. (read on other topics) sooo assuming it was the TCT i replaced that, but its still making the noise, so i asked dealerships to adjust my timing and they say it cant be done on an S2000. and now im about to get my valves adjusted...but my main question is

is it possible to have my timing adjusted/retard timing?

There engine won't run with a stock PCM with a cam timing off 1 tooth on either cam. "Adjusting" the cam timing would result in a car that doesn't move under it's own power.

I have also just had my engine put back together (not due to a chain issue) and after about 1000kms i began to hear the TCT tick aswell. We adjusted the valves and changed the tensioner, but the noise is still there. My mechanics going to look into it further this week, and hopfully call me back with a solution.

Like Illezt said, any help/info would be appreciated.

mine wasnt due to a chain issue also, just takin apart thinking to get rebuilt but plans changed so put back together...n just wondering since the TC was off and put back on that it doesnt need any special adjusting or something...

let us kno what your mechanic says WhiteAP1, hopefulli i dont have the noise after my valves are adjusted, but if it does i want to see what he says it could be, maybe just a noisy motor?

What im experienceing sounds exactly like the sound clips posted by those with bad TCT. The sounds actually matches the revs when u apply the accelerator, just like a bad TCT. Im a bit stumped, but hopfully at the end of the week the problems been identified.

this was my motor with a scuffed bore. It is definitely a different sound than a TCT!
