Timing chain block cutout
I know this is going to seem strange, but I've noticed the area (edge) behind the timing chain and around the entire mold/cutout for the chain's block/head jacket is really rough edged, especially on the passenger (right) side of the area. I was checking my valve retainers for cracks/recession and noticed this. It looks chipped, like the timing chain has hit it a lot, which is possible since my TCT has been making noise for like 4,000 miles. Is this the chain slapping the face of the cutout? Does the tensioner move that far out (over 1") to allow the chain to move that far? If so I wonder if the small pieces will migrate to the bottom of the pan and drain out with an oil change?? This kind of worries me. The chipped area isn't fresh- looks like it's taken time, and isn't terrible, just slightly rough and out of shape. Thoughts? I know I need to change the TCT, ordering it tomorrow and having it overnighted since I'm heading to FL Friday, 1800 mile trip to/from.. I hope someone has seen this before and I haven't f#@)ed my head up...
