Default TMPS sensors - does the system reprogram itself?

Had a brief conversation with the dealer today about TPMS sensors. I have an 08 base model S2K.

I have purchased a new set of wheels and tires, with Honda TPMS sensors installed, from the Tire Rack. My understanding is that when I go to put the new wheels on, the TPMS system will show a fault because the sensors are now different. However the dealer told me today that the system might actually recognize the new sensors on its own. As he put it, if this does not happen after driving for 100 miles, then I have to bring it in and they can fix it. To me, this does not make a whole lot of sense when you break it down. It *might* reprogram itself? Will it or won't it?

My question for those of you who are knowledgeable in this area is, is it possible that the system will recognize new sensors on its own? The fine folks at the Tire Rack told me flat out that I would need to bring it to the dealer so they can scan each sensor and change it, I don't know how they do it but presumably by plugging in to the car's computer and sending the new data on the sensors?

If you're a TPMS expert and you can help on this, it would be appreciated. I'll have my answer soon enough when I put the new wheels on, but I'm just curious in the meantime. Thanks.

The TPMS system will not program sensors on it's own.

The new TPMS sensors will need to be relearned, but it requires 2 different pieces of dealer special tools to make it work. The HDS tester to communicate to the TPMS unit, and Sensor tool to "ping" the sensor to have the TPMS unit learn the new sensor ID's.

$45 is reasonable.

OK, so I have installed the new wheels, and now I have a new question. Neither the "TPMS" system lamp, or the little flat tire lamp have come on. Can anyone explain why this might be? Shouldn't the system be detecting a problem now? I have driven about 30 miles and about 40 minutes with the new wheels on, btw.

It takes awhile before the TPMS unit stores the code for missing sensors. It will come on though.
