Top starter bolt
Hey guys, I'm going step by step on someone's s2ki diy on a transmission removal and I'm stuck. I cannot for the life of me manage to get a socket on this top starter bolt. If got the wobble extensions, swivel sockets, and 60 feet of extensions. Any tricks?

Move everything out of the way from the front of the engine bay and it should be a straight shot to the bolt if you have all of the extensions you need, a bright light helps. No tricks needed, just steer clear of the knock sensor as it is super brittle.
If you are in a bind, remove the intake manifold and it will open things up more clearly, not too hard to do.

The FSM states that you have to remove the alternator and the AC compressor, much easier than taking off the intake manifold, just make sure you plug up the AC lines. Or if you're a badass, remove the top alternator bolt and swivel it towards the right, then stand over the driver's side headlamp and with a strong light, you should just be able to see it.

Here I am thinking I'm bad ass enough to get the transmission off myself. And I can't even get the starter out. Thanks for the tips fellas I'm gonna keep at it.

I found it easiest to peek thru the last two runners of the intake manifold to see the bolt in question after moving the alternator and such out of the way. A wobbler and 2ft extension is all I needed.

As shown in the clutch threads I've found a 14mm flex socket (http://www.sears.com/craftsman-14mm-...p-00943205000P) on the end of the extensions is all that is needed if the alternator is dropped down. I have also found that it is best for me to do it before I put the car on stands as the lower stance makes it easier for me to see. It is not easy but clearly possible without removing a bunch of stuff.

Best way i found to take it out the tensioner. Took maybe 10 more minutes but headache free.
