hey guys, im not new to convertables, but I am putting a new top on my S (plastic window) and noticed there are OEM straps connecting 2 rails. I was wondering if these are actually needed? Ive changed 3 tops on miatas and never had them.

 

The elastic straps are there to fold the bow when the top is put down. If they are not there the top fabric can be torn by the latches.
