having run the car starved of oil for at least 30 mins, i kinda want a rebuild because im assuming some damage was done...is this a fair assumption?

It's possible that the rings got coked up. They are easily cleaned using this product:

A compression check, before and after will confirm how well it worked.

Good luck, and don't forget to change your PCV before and after the Auto-Rx treatment.

Js raceing motors start at 12K.

There are alot of low mileage s2000s that are smashed up and being sold for 2-4k on the autotrader. Perhaps buy one of those, swap the motor... you will be golden
