Torco LSD kit
I was on Torco's site earlier to order my engine oil when I noticed their Limited Slip fluid kit. To my surprise, at the top of the list of applications, there was the S2000. In the short list of applications, the S2000 was the only automobile specifically mentioned. The other applications listed are; Kaaz LSD, Circuit Worx, Cusco, Drive Shaft Shop, Moore Perf., OS Giken, and Quaife. If you'd like to check out the site, it is www.torcousa.com . Click on "automotive" tab and put your cursor on the 'products' tab and select 'differential". Look at the bottom left to select the 'LSD kit'. Scroll down to the bottom for the recommended applications. I make NO recommendations about this differential fluid one way or the other. . .haven't used it. This info is being posted here simply as a courtesy to my fellow S owners. I HAVE been using their synthetic 10w 30 for the last 12,000 miles or so and make no recommendations here either until my Blackstone analysis comes back. I was not pleased with Torco's manual transmission fluid as it made no difference at all in my tranny's notchy shifting. GM's FM fluid took care of that. Torco is better known and established in motocross/supercross racing with their 2-stroke oils.
If you are referring to this product:

I believe there is little benefit to the S2000 rear diff. This product is aimed at LSDs that incorporate "clutch packs", which the S2000 does not have. It's obvious they did not do their research well and they simply included the S2000 as a marketing ploy to sell more product. I'm sure that the fluid is of good quality although like you say, this statement cannot be proven at this time without some analysis being done. The "additive" bottle (friction modifier) will do nothing for our diffs, though it will probably not harm it. Nowhere on that page does it say that the fluid is GL-5 rated. I would be extremely cautious about using this product when there are known proven products that are readily available for our diffs.
FYI, Redline Shockproof makes similar claims to high shear, high this and that, yet, my little experiment proved that it is not a good fluid to use in a street driven car. It's longevity is brief and diff wear is premature. I fear that like Shockproof, this fluid may be OK, but need to be changed at high frequencies, low mileage intervals. BTW, Shockproof is also NOT GL-5 rated.
If someone would like to be the Ginea Pig for this Torco fluid, please come back and let us know how it went. It won't be me.

Yep, that's what I was referring to. I've noticed that Torco has updated their site recently. A few months ago they claimed a GL-6 rating which caught my attention and emailed them about it. They responded by saying (and I paraphrase here) that while the GL-6 rating does not actually exist now, they claim that the their fluid would attain that rating if the rating did indeed exist and they elected to continue to advertise accordingly. All that did was to leave me scratching my ever-growing bald spot.
