Default Torn outer CV joint replacement...

Do I need to remove the entire axle to slip the outer CV boot off, or can I get access to the boot for removal from the hub side without disconnecting the axle on the inner CV side?

Thanks.

You shouldn't have to. You'll need to pull the wheel hub off the driveshaft. Then you can remove the big band clamp to pull the boot away from the outboard joint. The drive shaft is held into the joint by a pressure clip (stop ring). You'll most likely have to "yank" it loose. Once the joint is off, you can then remove the smaller band clamp and slide the boot off the end of the shaft. The new one goes on in the reverse fashion.

thanks XV. I was hoping this was the case. Now I know what the rest of the "outer CV Kit" is used for.
