Default Torque problems under 3000 on '04?

There seems to be a huge abrupt jump in torque at 3000 rpm on '04 engines. It makes it very difficult to launch the car because under 3000 the old engine had more power. Anyone else has the same problem?

Not on my 04 here's my dyno, no big jump in torque. However what you may be feeling is the changes in clutch in the MY00-03 and the MY04. The MY04 has a new cylinder that delays gripping. So your clutch may not be grabbing.

Me personally I don't do clutch drops but I do slip the clutch some naturally and don't have a problem getting a good launch when I do.

Ok, "huge abrupt" was an exaggeration but it definitely feels like there is a nonlinearity there if I just let's say upshift from 1st to 4th and keep accelerating then it clearly begins to pull a lot harder at around 3000 and it's really whimpy, feels whimpier than my old '00 under 3000.

Crazy, is your '04 stock? 211whp and 144.9 ft-lb torque is pretty impressive. That's about 250hp and 170ft-lb torque at the crank.

I don't like clutch drops either plus the new rubber seems to not stick as much as the old S02s anymore. It's really hard for me to get the car going if I need to make a quick left turn or something. Maybe as you said I just need to adjust to the new clutch.. I find myself wishing for a bigger engine now that isn't as whimpy at low rpms.

The difference at 3000 is definitely more noticeable than the difference at 6000.

How many miles on the new tires.....according to tirerack reccomended break in for new tires is 500miles....the curing compounds have to wear out of the tires for their full stickyness to come out. BTW the RE050 will NOT be as stickey as the S02, close but not the same. That's why the RE050 is better in the rain. Also one thing to consider, without an alignment done, the MY04 does tend to understeer. It took me a while to realize that was
what was bothering me in the corners

The engine will break in more too....Mine feels stronger than it was at 3K....I can peel out now pretty easy without even a high clutch dump....
Gotta be careful about that in CA.........

Let the engine grow you'll be surprised. You can also dyno once you reach enough miles to see for sure...

Not sure what YOU mean by launch, but I have had nothing but smooth ones in my car, and I do not feel any wimpy flatness, just smooth pull. The crossover at 6000 is not as dramatic in fact, because the torque curve is fatter and wider.

hey, wavelet, take a weekend, drive out to vegas, and ill show you what an 04 can do. or if youd like we can meet somewhere in L.A. go to street encounters and read my post VS my buddies. that will give you an idea, i personally dont know why the hell you are trying to drive this car under 3000 rpm? i mean, if thats your deal, go buy a cobra. dude, rev that thing to the moon and let it rip, but youd better be able to drive. also, if you wanna spin tires, and this goes for all of you, put em at 40psi, this 32 psi crap is for at the road track. i drift every day, and drag race every day, NO JOKE, EVERY SINGLE DAY. someone wants a race, if not, i race myself (LOL) why, just to keep in practice and make sure the car knows who the owner is. take it easy, be safe. dave
