Default Tranny & Engine Help

Hello there. I'm new to s2ki and to the s2k. I recently purchased a 2002 SS s2k and I been having trouble for the past few weeks. At times when I'm at a stop sign and I'm ready to go I get hesitation when I'm in first. Some of you may know it as the kangaroo effect?? It really pisses me off. I read about every thread before posting, that, it may be the MAP sensor or to do the "MAP WHACK". Others say just to live with it? I'm going to order a new MAP sensor and see if that solves it. But does anyone know the actual cause of this? And yes, I do know how to drive stick, been doing it all my life.

Second problem is that my tranny won't shift to 5th or 6th gear at any speeds. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and reverse work fine. No I don't "shift skip". I don't know if the previous owner did or not. I also read a few threads about this saying that I needed to regrease the shifter.

So far I've been very dissapointed in this car. First two months I had it were great when I bought it. But now it's just dissapointing to drive.

Please help me.

Thanks for your time and help in advance

Danny

Not sure what the kangaroo effect is. Are you basically saying that from a stop you have a hesitation? Perhaps a heat soak issue?

As far as the 5th and 6th gear issue, it would be an issue with the collar for those gears. I'm someone else will be able to give you more.

Thanks for the reply. Feels like when you first learning to drive stick and you keep stalling it. It won't actually stall though, it will just keep "jumping"

Is the tranny a thing you can fix or do I need a new tranny?

I still have the "kangaroo" effect from time to time but that is due to my error. If you let off the gas completely it will stop. It usually happens when you keep "taping" the gas without putting your foot down.... I do this a lot and don't realize it when I'm tired.

Your transmission is bad. Did you not test drive the car before you bought it?

Unfortunately, when I bought it and test drove it, it didn't have the "kangaroo" effect and all gears worked perfectly. Had the car for 4 months before I started noticing these problems.

Do a map whack, clean your IACV valve. And for bonus feeling-improvement, regrease your shifter and fork, change your clutch fluid, make sure your clutch is properly engaging:

And while you're at it, change your intake air filter (is it dirty, clogged?) and adjust your throttle cable to spec:

Then come back to us.

Did all this except the clutch fluid change. Still having the same problem. I'll check the throttle cable see if it's loose

Checked the throttle cable and it's really loose. How do I know how tight it needs to be?

1/2" deflection or someting like that. Just make it real tight.
