Default Tranny Rebuild

It is now time for my transmission to be rebuilt on my 2001 s2000, so I am doing a standard overhaul (bearings & brass). That said, I am taking the opportunity to upgrade my clutch and flywheel as well, so that I don't have to be pay more labor later.

I just wanted some opinions on some of the things I was looking at, and if anyone has any experience with said products, and what they think I should go with. I'm new to the whole transmission game, so hesitate at doing some off-name brand cheap part like I did for my header.

Flywheel

Clutch Kit

Those were the two that I primarily had my eye on. Are those good? Will I be satisfied? Will those not work well? I was also looking at the Prolite Xact Flywheel (#600350).

Any input would be greatly appreciated. I am looking at having these purchased within the next day or so, so that I don't delay the rebuild of the transmission. If all goes well I'll have my baby back by Friday.

Thanks a bunch

If you're doing it, why are you worried about labor charges later. If you're just signing the check, why don't you say so.

I'd get the act flywheel, oem friction disk and act hd pressure plate. Alot of people are running this setup and seem to be happy with it.

I don't quite understand what you mean. I am signing the check now, but just trying to get some opinion on what I should get. It's not a matter of labor charges

What milage?
And why the overhaul?
Noise, bad shifting?
Anyway.. with brass parts you mean synchro's?
If so, that's going to be expensive IMO.
AFAIK Honda only sells complete gear kits, no seperate synchro rings etc.

Why not look for a good used AP2 gear box?
A little shorter 1-4 and slightly longer 5th and 6th.
Might be the same price when all is done.

ACT PP + Comptech FW + OEM disk =

So the deal is done.

The tranny is at 138,800 miles. The overhaul was needed due to a shot bearing, making a very loud noise, and was confirmed @ honda and a transmission shop. The overhaul includes ALL bearings and brass, by default. It was too expensive to do at honda....they wanted $6k-$8k.

I am getting the rebuild for $1200 which includes all bearings and brass (brass = synchros), as I said above. It will not include any damaged gears, but both Honda and this shop agree that it doesn't sound like there is any gear damage. If there were any damaged gears though, they will get me a new OEM gear for $55 per gear at the shop I took it to.

I got the Competition Clutch Stage 2 kit and the Toda Chromoly 8.36lbs flywheel (those two cost a combined total of about $1100 with 2nd day shipping, cuz I'm trying to get all the work done rather fast).

The rebuild also comes with a 2 year 24,000 mile warranty, which is nice! So I'm looking at about $2400 or so total, counting clutch and flywheel. In addition they aren't charging me any extra to throw on the flywheel & clutch, which makes sense since the transmission is already out (no extra labor).

Thank you for all of your input and I will definitely let you all know what this setup is like and how it feels.
