See If I had to change clutch then I would gladly swap the damn seals, but my clutch only has 14k lightly non abused miles on it, plenty of life left,

This really sucks that my tranny has to go down because of a seal that should be ok

How does the dealership know your main shaft seal is bad without opening the clutch housing? The rear main seal is much more likely to go out. And why are you paying over $1000? There is just as much work involved with changing a clutch, and clutch labor for two different shops in SoCal that I know of is $300. The seals are cheap.

I'm not sure what you guys are talking about

But diff fluid and MTF are both gear oils. They both smell horrible.

diff smells worse than mtf.

mtf doesn't smell worse than motor oil

I don't know what MTF you're using, but if it's Honda MTF, it smells like shit (high sulfur content, or so I'm told).

It's unmistakeable.

maybe cuz i usually change the diff before i change the tranny...so the tranny doesn't smell like anything compared to the diff oil.

Not super necessary but since the transmission will be out you might think about adding a new clutch disk. I know you only have 14k on your clutch so no need to bother with pressure plate and TOB. Might as well start all over again with what woud be essentially a brand new clutch.
