Default Transmission Noise; need opinions

Hey guys, just picked up an S and there is a whirring noise coming from the gearbox. The car is an 01 and has 104000 miles. The noise is faint in neutral and can also be heard when cruising in all gears. The noise does not sound like a grind but I am thinking that it may be the output shaft bearing from what I have read. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

the only thing that leads me to believe its not the output shaft is that the noise is still aparent at a stop wroth the clutch up. depress the clutch, no more noise.

This. Mine started out quiet and progressively got worse over the period of a year. A few day before it went, it was pretty loud and then it just let go. We pulled the trans and bearings fell out all over the garage floor. Keep in mind that my T/O bearing had 175k+ miles on it, lol.

If you can hear it while stopped, it is not the output shaft bearing.
