Transmission question
Looking to buy a 2006 s2k tomorrow, the current owner said he just got the transmission fluid flushed so I asked if he had shifting problems. He said it was grinding a bit and after the flush its better. Should I be concern about it?
If a flush miraculously fixed his shift grinding and it was there before, most likely it drained metal bits. It could honestly be nothing at this point as the gears were just ground a couple of times or it could turn into a bigger problem down the road if the gears sustained more damage. Best way to tell is drive the car for a decent amount of time in a variety of conditions in a variety of ways. I'd say get the seller agree to have it inspected and if no damage is found say you'll cover the cost, or try to talk him into letting you borrow it, giving him a deposit, or possibly some notarized form that binds him to tranny issues within the near future.
Taking the oem tranny fluid beyond 8k-10k miles can result in notchy shifting, the fluid shears after that mileage so changing it restores viscosity and can bring back proper shift feel. It sounds like what happened in this case as a lot of owners tend to push the fluid farther than that. I like the oem fluid, just change it regularly and you will be fine.

ah cool, look forward to seeing the results, interested in seeing the viscosity of the used fluid , good to hear it shifts well. I dump the Honda fluid in my ap1 tranny a bit early, but after 60k miles on it the tranny shifts like it is brand new, even in dead cold temps.
Even better, I have that fluid in my differential too, I normally would have sent in a used sample of it but I barely drove the car last season so I am going to leave it in for one more season before I sample it.
