yeah but in order to heli coil it the transmission has to come off. because its the upper fill hole. its actually doing alright with the current set up and i have enough time to jack up the car every couiple of days and check the bolt to make sure it isnt going anywhere
Take the car to a Speed shop. Their hourly rate may be higher but they might also have a simple solution since they are used to improvising when building hot-rods. Improvising suggests many specialty tools and your problem could have a simple solution for a shop like this.
I only ask because I had the TSB for popping out of gear done to my transmission and then recently when I went to change the fluid I found the fill bolt hole was stripped (it was tightened down EXTREMELY tight, way over spec). I'm assuming when the TSB was done it was tightened with an impact gun or just by some guy who kicked the ratchet or something with an insane amount of pressure.
Regardless, I tried to find a tap to re-tap it myself and save the trip back to the dealer but I ended up ordering a M20x2.5 tap from a specialty hardware store for $40 and this was NOT the right thread pitch. By the naked eye the pitch looks to be about 1.25 or 1.50, but I'm not sure.
I talked to the dealer and they are going to take a look at it, I just raised the car back up (its been sitting in my backyard for 2 days with no fill bolt) and put some thread-locker on the bolt and will use that to hold it on to drive to the dealer. Hopefully they have a tap or something (and a short one that will fit). Its a pretty good dealer in the area so they should.
On a sidenote, when I raised the car today to put the fill bolt back on, there was some tranny fluid on the floor. Hard to say how much. I had just plugged the fill hole with a rag temporarily for the past 2 days keeping it in my backyard (I DID NOT MOVE THE CAR, NOT TURNED ON), only thing I can figure is when I dropped the jack it splashed out of the car? Unless the rag served as a wick or something and let some fluid run down it. Regardless I don't think it is that much, maybe .1 or .2 quarts, if even that? However much plausible splash out of the fill hole when dropping the jack . . . do I need to worry about driving 20 miles to the dealer tomorrow missing that slight amount of fluid? And on that subject, could any moisture or anything have gotten in by being parked with just a rag plugging the fill hole?

TRy this- Put the bolt back in hand tight and take the car to your dealer and ask for a transmission fluid change. If their using air tools they probably won't notice when removing the bolt but should notice when replacing. They will assume they stripped it and will make the repair for you. If they do notice it, I would think that it would be a simple repair.
Why wouldn't a steel self tapping bolt work? Tap with the steel bolt, remove and replace with an aluminum bolt of the same size.

Lol, we think the dealer legitamitely did do it when they were performing the transmission TSB. They are fixing it for me now, I took it up this morning.
A self tapping bolt would work, but I could not find one that big in any hardware store in Miami. They all went to M12 or M14 max.
