Trunk suddenly doesn't open with FOB
I've had an aftermarket alarm (Clifford) for years, no problems, always worked.
Anything else I should be looking at?
Thanks!
- Past few months the trunk opens 50% of the time using the FOB, now it opens 10% of the time.
- (Sometimes the trunk switch solenoid groans when using the FOB)
- The actual switch in the secret compartment works 100% of the time
- The manual key works 100% of the time
Anything else I should be looking at?
Thanks!
From the thread title, I was going to say check the wire near tbe hinge. But not only have you already done that, but it works from the console button. So wire must be ok.
I would say to replace the fob battery. Even if you're sure it can't be that, its low hanging fruit, and cheap. Batteries can do some weird things.

Thanks guys -- I'm using the the Clifford 2-way pager alarm one -- pressing the trunk release button on the alarm fob triggers the solenoid/release noise -- I can hear it clicking/buzzing/groaning, but it only opens 10% of the time now (used to work 100% for years).
I've also replaced the fob battery.
Any other ideas? Is the latch adjustable?
I just can't understand why the key works, the inside-console button works, and the fob seems to mechanically trigger the switch, but it's stuck!

I recall several threads on this that the wires to the trunk lock fail where the bundle bend going from the lid to the car. Almost always the point of failure for intermittent and complete failure.
You must have missed the part where he said he checked the wiring already.
Anyway, if its the alarm fob, its not the same exact electronics that the console button uses. If it were the Honda fob it would be the same relay, same wires, etc.
He alarm system probably has its own relay, that taps into the Honda harness someplace. I'm betting on the relay, or the wiring where its tapped in.
Oem wiring and connectors are extremely reliable. Its taken them decades of r&d and experience to get here. Wiring in an aftermarket alarm, remote starter, stereao, etc, its very easy to end up with something that is not as reliable. That just doesn't stand up over time and miles. So called professional shops are often real hacks at wiring as well. Its often really difficult to troubleshoot aftermarket wiring as well.
I would look at the wiring first.
