Default Trying to install Modifry soft top straps, but the rivets are filled??

Hello S2K fam, I’m wondering if this is normal or if something is off here. I am trying to replace my soft top straps with these from Modifry: Convertible Top Fix The straps have a U-pin that is supposed to fit into two rivets on the support bars. My rivets seem to be filled already:

I have had a mechanic replace these straps before, so this is probably due to the way he installed these. What can I do? Is there still hope for me replacing these myself?

Thanks for any guidance!

those little stems should come out, try using a flat head and see if they will pry out.

Try drilling them out if you can with a bit that size or slightly smaller. It is a very soft metal so should just drill out very easily

I'll bet as soon as the drill bit touches the aluminum remnant in the hole, they'll come right out. Just use a really bit much smaller than the hole.

good luck!

If I was trying to drill them out my bit would slip off and I'd punch a hole in the roof. Unless you're more skilled than me I'd find another way.

It looks like your mehcanic may have used a different type of blind rivet than is used from the factory when he replaced your strap previously. Not all blind rivets allow the stem to pull completely through and leave a hole. I would also be concerned if you try and drill out the stem the rivet could release and then you would be in a worse way. If you want to try and drill them I would find a piece of sheet metal or thick plastic to slip between the frame and the top. That way if you do slip you won't punch a hole.

Also, your 2nd photo looks weird. Why is the elastic strap folded over the frame like that?

To reveal the rivets for the pic

Try this, use a center punch or a nail set to drive the stem through the back of the rivet instead of trying to drill it or pry it out. The piece will come out the back side and remain in the bar. To get the pieces out of the bar, pull off the plastic end caps on the front bar and blow them through the other side. The rear bar does not have plastic end caps so those will fall out when putting the top up/down or when driving, nothing to be concerned about.
