Turbo experts: Need help on exhaust.
I am looking for info on available 3' exhausts (I know of Apexi N1). Is there anything that is NOT extremely loud (I am concerned primarily with noise in the cabin) with dual tips. Please advise.
The S2000 is a high performance low production NA car, and therefore no aftermarket companies make a 3" exhaust. If you are going with a 3" exhaust you have to make a custom one which means that you take what you can get. My 3" exhaust sounds like an old chevy at idle, and rattles half the building (condo building) in the process. It's especially funny with a turbo timer.. I walk away from the car while it's still running and you can hear pieces of the roof rattling..
Anyways, a 3" exhaust is more about performance not about sound or looks
I have the Apex'i N1 3" tips on my exhaust.

Thanks Chris. I think I may keep with the stock exhaust (I know it' snot optimal) and wait until something else becomes available. My condo neighbors are not that understanding.....
I wouldn't let chris scare you away from dual N1s.. I have them as well and while I can hear my car idling while the turbo timer spools down (from in my apartment), it really isn't that loud. When you get on the throttle, it's a whole new ball game, but at idle or just purring around town, it's not bad at all.
It will be louder than stock obviously, but there's only so much you can do when you start to change the dynamics of the engine.

I dont understand you're question, but I assume you're asking where you can get one made? And if you should get one with no mods?
The answer is, you local exhaust shop can do it, or anyone with a saw, some 11 guage piping and a tig welder.
You would only want a 2.5" exhaust for NA because you need some back pressure to increase torque. If you went 3" you'd probably have higher peak HP, but the low end would be even worse than it already is.

so Chris,
I guess I haven't looked underneath my S yet but where should we start the custom piping? and with 2.5in you said we wouldn't lose any backpressure? And will any of this cause my check engine light to come on? Thanks -gage

It will not affect the ECU if you put the exhaust from the catalitic converter back. If you decide to remove the cat then you're car will soun dlike a V8 with a straight back exhaust (non dual.) Not to mention the fact that you'll hear it about 5 miles away.
There is a video on the J's racing website with their single exhaust and a straight pipe. The car sounds like a monster!
