Default Turbo Install

Well there is a guy here in Atlanta that has a turbo on his car ready to go. Except one problem. It won't go into V-tec. It gives an oil pressure warning when it tries to go. The guy that is working on it is a top-notch Honda guy and would let him work on my car anyday. They have been stumped though. It has been about 2 weeks and it comes back to the same thing everytime. Someone must know the answer to this.

By the way there is no oil leaks anywhere.

Please help.

How does he have the oil feed line?? The oil feed line should be tee'd off the oil pressure switch with the switch being screwed into the tee directly across from the block and the feed line off the tee should be at 90 degrees from the block. Other than that thats all I can think of other than check to see if you have enough oil.

Not that I have any insight on the problem, but I heard this afternoon that when VTEC engages, oil has been seen "spraying everywhere" under the valve cover. Maybe I misunderstood the description, but that sounds like an oil leak when the secondary rockers engage.

Well if oil is spraying everywhere I wonder if the rockers have been out. Some of the VTEC pins might of fell out and they didnt catch it. That would cause low oil pressue and spraying when VTEC engages.

Yeah I haven't been updated on this since 2 weeks ago. So this is news to me Bob. I just wanted to post here to see if anyone else has had this same problem andy maybe they can finish Todd's car sooner than later. It has been a project in itself and has taken almost a year to finish.

What do you mean "oil pressure warning" does the engine have low oil pressure, or does the Check engine light come on for a VTEC failure?

There are multiple possibilities to what can cause this.
Low oil level
low oil pressure (needs 60psi+ for the VTEC to work)
Missing or incorrectly assembled VTEC rocker arm pistons.
Stopped up VTEC spool valve inlet screen.
Stuck VTEC spool valve
Faulty VTEC solenoid, or VTEC Oil pressure switch
Problem with the wiring in between.
Incorrectly operating VTEC controller

Aha! I have not had the rocker assembly apart myself, but that sounds like a possiblilty. I know the car sat disassembled for months, and to me that increases the possibility of a missing or incorrectly installed part.

The engine runs fine below VTEC and has oil pressure, just suddenly loses pressure when VTEC activates.

Thanks for posting this guys!

I spoke to the shop owner today (Also an S2000 owner). The shop foreman tore the head down today and found "something that he did not like" under rocker #5. They made the "fix" and plan to test the car in the morning.

For those that do not know, we are shooting for 400hp on a built motor running less than 15 psi. I plan on keeping the HP down until I have a chance to break the engine in.

We will push the HP up later in the year.

Thanks to all those that posted some info on the thread.

ok The head is NOT the problem

Someone suggested that the oil relocation kit and large lines to the kit may be causing the oil presure to be too low when Vtec is kicked in. Has anyone else seen this, or believe this theory?

Description of the problem
Oil pressure drop only when Vtech is engaged.

thanks
