Turbo lag & boost threshold.
Most 1/4 ultra fast turbo car will have a serious lag (Example 6-10 second GN's. Smaller turbo's in relation to the same engine will normally give a quicker "spool up" time or less lag. Big turbo's may be somewhat sluggish in a very short distance but come on like gangbusters later on the the quarter. Many factors determine "spool time" or lag such as the size of a T-converter on an auto.
The older Porshe turbo's '97 etc. had one hell of a "sudden spool" making it very dangerous for the average person to control (not being used to it). Newer technology has eliminated most lag and the new Turbo Porshe (blazing fast) has no lag at all! I think most drivers would agree the animalism in the new model seems very tame now but the speedo doesn't agree.... Whoosh!
Having owned and experimented with many turbo's the larger ones were not satisfactory for light-to-light streeting. MY best luck (0-60) came from stock to slightly larger with gobs of fuel pressure (72lbs WOT) and 22lbs of boost. My turbo "spool up" was so fast you didn't have time to wet your pants as cars far-far ahead became immediate obstacles before you could realize what was going on. In other words.... one scary ride. My modified turbo cars all had a lag but not much. When the turbo did spool you had better be ready otherwise you were in the weeds!
Oh baby on a cold night! Add 60-HP easily because of the cold charge. Traction-none. A 55-mph roll would blister the tires on any day.
Darn... got me excited, maybe I'll have to get another. I still have many trick parts around.... Sorry for the wondering....
