Default Turbo Reliability

There have been a lot of comments on this forum stating that turbocharged S2Ks are unreliable compared to supercharged ones. I think a lot of this is BS based on my experience with an RX7 I turboed a few years back. This car had a Racing Beat 13B engine running 10psi of boost with an air to water intercooler. I had this car for 8 years without any problems other than clutch replacements. Its probably still running great.

Anyways, I'd like to hear from some of you turbo owners about any reliability issues. My guess is that there won't be many.

There won't be many because there aren't many owners on this board with turbos. Besides, they haven't been in existence that long, either. I don't know that you can compare a rotary application with a high compression piston application.

I think the main reliability issue's of going FI on an S2000 is the rear end not the engine itself unless you get some muppet turning the boost right up.......
As alot of other owners on here say they would all love to have an FI S2000 with an RX7 rear end. Bulletproof

What difference does the source of powering the compressor make? None as far as I can tell.. If engine heat is controlled and engine management done properly it just about boost.. the more pressure, the more stress on the engine. IMO any difference in failure rate between TC or SC would have to do with implementation.

Are the rearends going out from the power or high rpm clutch drops? I'm still kind of unclear on that. Has anyone seen the guts of both diff's? Is the Rx-7 that much more beefy? and if so, how so? I doubt too many rx-7 owners rev'd till 7000 rpms and droped the clutch full throtle. Anybody feel they know the answer?

I agree with this. As far as the rearend is concerned in my opinion, you just have to excercise mechanical empathy when almost doubling your hp. So smokey burnouts and clutch dumps will accel wear on oem parts, specialy s2000 rear ends
