So I bought some JDM headlight housings and they should come in by the end of this week for me to install. I've already got the front end of the car off and the original headlights are off of the car too.

What I want to know is how much of a pain in the ass is it to detach the HID beam assembly from the original housing and move it over to the JDM housing? Are there a ton of parts I'll have to reassemble or is it just a matter of undoing a few bolts and popping it out of the old one and popping it into the new one?

I already know all the issues with how the JDM light housings are notched for RHD and stuff like that so don't comment on that part. I just want to know about moving the HID assembly from one housing to the next. Is it difficult?

I'm sure someone has done it.

um, if you want to move the notch over, you might as well just take out the frosted plate from the JDMs and put them in your OEM headlights.

just keep the JDM notch. much less of a headache

To take the hids out there is the 4 bolts that hold the HID transformer box (can't remember the correct name) and a T-25 tamper proof torx screw that need to be removed to get to the bulb. That's it. Make sure you go slowly and clean your hands before you touch anything. Do not touch the bulb. I use new rubber gloves everytime I do the transplant.

You really should get the Helms manual before attempting anything in the future..

So what's the deal with the frosted plate?

Well if you wanted to I guess you could crack open both assemblies (JDM and US) and just swap the diffusers. That way you wouldn't have to worry about moving the HID assembly, buying different sockets, or blinding oncoming traffic.

I'm not really concerned with oncoming traffic. Most people already yell at me because they think I have my brights on as it is, so what do I care. I don't drive this car at night very often anyway.

Yeah, you need different sockets for the JDM too. I bought them from Rick over the weekend. They should get here around the same time as the housings this week.

hhehe, that torx bit is a joke, you can take some pliers and unscrew it that way.

if you bought the JDMs I dont reccomend opening them. removing the HID ballast and bulbs is simple, just be very careful. do not touch the bulbs and you will have no problems.
