Default VAFC2 trouble

I just installed a VAFC2 (my last s2k saw good results from one so it is worth the $50 an they are easy/cheap to tune) according to a honda tech forum where a guy made a diagram of the installation (https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/504...iring-diagram/ ) Everything seemed right so I plugged the harness back up to the ecu an turned the car on (ACC) an initialized the controller, I then started the car an it threw a CEL an was flooding out an wouldnt stay running but the controller was working properly. so obviously something wasnt right so I compared it to a diagram on the APEXI web site ( http://www.apexi-usa.com/content/pdf6133.pdf ) ( ecu : H6-a ) An noticed the grounds where different. So I hooked up the ground wire according to the apexi site (Everything else matched up) I then started the car an the car ran perfect as it did before I hooked up the VAFC2 but the VAFC2 LED screen didnt come on but the control knob on the controller lights up green/red flashes a few time the turns green but still nothing on the screen. Can anyone help or have the same issue? Do you think it is a wiring issue or did I fry something when hooking it up to the wrong ground?

Did you do this without a harness?

I would assume you did something wrong when wiring if so. You should have been able to pick up a used one with harness for $200 - 250. I don't know how u got it for $50 unless it was because it didn't have a harness

No It didnt have a boomslang harness if that what you mean, I hardwired it into the main wire harness, but used VAFC/VAFC2 run $50-$100 on craigslist, I didnt want to spend 4 times what I payed for the unit to get a harness but I guess I prob would have been better off. lol I was wondering if I could have fried the unit when using the wrong ground. I checked the wiring like 4 times an everything seems right?

Before you purchasd it, did you se that th screen worked correctly? A good VAFC I or II runs $200 and the bloomslang is $149(I hve VAFCII and the boomslang harness)..I'm thinking you got it for that low price because it was fautly...Your wiring may b off, the harness is th easist way and if you want to resell it later it'll sell quick

^ I agree. I have never seen a VAFC sell for as low as 50. Most are in the 125-175 range used.

Probably wired it up wrong. Should buy the harness and give it a shot.

Honestly you are kind of screwed and it is going to be a PITA to get yourself out of the hole you digged yourself into.

I doubt you fried anything under their but you could have either wired it wrong or it is broken. Either way you are going to have to take it out and wire the ECU back to how it was. That is going to be a PITA. those wires are so short and it is in a horrible location. I have no idea how you were able to wire it the first time. It took me forever to wire my ESM for my CT SC and that only had 3 wires i needed to cut. The VAFC has 12 or something.

anyway after you wire it back I would buy the harness and see if that works. if it doesn't then buy a new vafc. since their is a high probability that it is broken it would probably be easiest and cheapest to buy the vafc2 and harness together. their are many floating around on this site.

either way I would chuck the $50 spent so far as a loss and start wiring the car back together. I give you props for hard wiring it in. I have no idea how you were able to do that.

It is super easy to work on the wire harness, You just unplug it from the ECU an pull it through the engine bay an it gives you all the room you want, Sounds difficult but it takes 5 min. The VAFC2 worked fine the first time I wired it up using the the wire diagram on the forum but my car ran like shit an CEL light came on after I did the intial setup, so I aussmed it was a wiring error, so I wired it according to apexi site an now it wont work but car runs fine, So I think it is a grounding issue?? as far as buying one look on creigslist they are all over for under $100 at least in my area, The guy still has another one for $50 so I am going to scoop it but it is a VAFC.

It probably ran like poop because you need a tune, but in order to do that CORRECTLY you need a dyno, when installing something like this its best you get dyno tuned ASAP before you screw something up if you didnt already...good luck
