Default valve spring or retainer HELP!!

Hello all! I am new to the board. I just bought a 2001 S2k... Looks awesome. however, I have an issue with it already!
The mom and pop dealership that i bought it from had it checked by honda and said that the valve spring was replaced cause the guy before me revved the car too high. I called the local honda dealer here today and he said it was unusual for the valve springs to go out..

Anyways, I was driving it last night and i revved hard (but not to redline) and it did fine, but as i picked up speed, it felt like the car lost compression.. it was hard to get it to move, even on low revs. and the check engine light came on (blinking).... I immediately parked the car. The one thing I did notice was that the car wasn't fully warmed up yet. 2 bars. Should I normally let the car warm up all the time?? Will this "lack" of compression happen when i don't allow it to warm up?

I started the car today, and it started up fine. no check engine light. Had full compression, like nothing was wrong with it.. What happened? Did I miss something? Did I get a crappy car? only has 50k on it... Any information you guys have would be greatly appreciated. I know very little about these cars or hondas in general. Please help!

When a car gets overreved, it is most often the valve itself that gets damaged and needs to be replaced. On an overrev, the valve floats, and the piston contacts it, normally bending the valve. A bent valve could be causing the loss in power and the CEL you experienced. Although that would not explain why you did not experience the same power issue later...

You should be able to pull the CEL code from the ECU to see what problem the CEL came on for.

This, I cannot say for sure. Having the fuel cut may have resulted in a momentary lean condition that was sensed by the ECU, so it may have caused it. I'm not sure.

if you rev the engine before 3 bars on the temp guage, it will stop at about 6700 rpm. your CEL light won't blink under this condition though. blinking CEL means something is seriously wrong in your engine, constant CEL means its not serious (emissions). you should get autozone to pull the code for free and then post in this thread or PM me the code and then i'll be able to help. but I wouldn't recommend driving it to autozone or the dealer to get the code, you'll have to buy an OBD-II scanner or get it towed.

Also, even once you reach 3 bars doesnt mean its safe to start going wild, as the three bars are coolant temp rather than oil temp. Make sure you are driving/warming it up even after you get to 3 bars before you go crazy with the revs. However, this is probably unrelated to your prob as it wouldnt throw a blinking CEL.

The blinking CEL didn't last though. It just did it while I was driving it. I parked it, and when I restarted it, no CEL, blinking or otherwise. I had it towed to have it looked at. But the fact that it came on worries me altogether.
