Default Valvoline Restore and Protect

I'm sure many of you have recently heard of Valvoline Restore and Protect. If not, it's this magical oil that claims to remove 100% of deposits.

More importantly, a certain oil forum (BITOG) has a bunch of skeptics converting into believers, especially after seeing the oil analysis.

I was curious if anyone in this forum is going to be trying out this oil in order to reduce oil burn--it seriously appears to be the "magic" sauce. I'm tempted to run it and be one of the first people that run it on tracked motors, but they don't seem to make 5W-40 (their thickest oil weight is 5W-30).

Guess I need to look harder for deposits so I can use Valvoline Restore. I have used Mobil 1 0W-30 the entire time and now I have 80K miles on my 2009.

Supposedly, the majority of deposits would be found on the piston.

I have not taken a bore scope to my own car to assess if this is true, but based off of other photos of the bore in s2ki, this is likely true.

The following below is conjecture, AKA talking out of my ass.

If it is to believed, there's oil in along the piston walls. This oil gets on the piston. This material appears to be very good at removing the deposits when soaked for a long time.

However, what is true is that BITOG sees a reduction in oil burn. This would likely imply that the surface the oil rings are around are being cleaned in some way, shape or form.

Some magic elixir for sure! And doesn't cost any more than plebeian not-magic motor oil.

Note it takes quite a while to see full effect. They note: "Restore & Protect is the first and only motor oil in market that actively cleans your engine, removing up to 100% of engine-destroying deposits from pistons (when used as directed for four or more consecutive oil changes at standard maintenance intervals, based on adapted sequence IIIH testing)." (Emphasis added.) (Won't remove 110% of deposits I guess.)

S2000 "standard maintenance interval" oil changes are every 7500 miles or in this case it will take 30,000 miles to do clean the engine -- and how would we know without an engine tear-down?

Easiest way to tell without tearing it down is:

Candidate has a motor that burns a lot of oil.

Candidate uses VRP, and it burns less oil.

We would not really know if it is cleaning or adding more sludge without a teardown, but others in BITOG have done it for us already.

I'm trying out this oil in 5w30. I put some in late last fall and haven't even broken 1k miles yet. Probably not a good test but intend to use it for a few more oil changes at once a year since I put so little miles. The idea is it needs several changes to truly "clean" an engine.

My engine has 157k miles as we speak and when the car was my daily driver, it didn't burn too much oil. Maybe 1/3rd of a quart in a 6k change interval. I do have a burned exhaust valve and last checkup revealed deposits on cylinder #4. I hope this can at least help clean it up a bit.
