Default Vented hoods - does it really matter?

Just curious if you get it more for the look or the functionality.

They claim it cools the engine down. See there is a pocket infront of the hood air goes in and out at the back carrying hot air. HAHAHA imagine it is so hot that your windcreen starts melting.

If I were to get one, it would be for functionality. I quite like the stock hood and it keeps the rain out. When I did my underhood temp recordings, it never exceeded 70*C but this hot air only served to "cook" the intake tube. I've insulated mine but if you could exhaust the hot air, you would have a more efficient intake charge. That's what CAI are all about, right? Nevertheless, no matter how cool you get the air going into the air cleaner, 70* engine bay temps will heat up the intake air just before it goes into the TB (unless there's insulation or a way for the heat to "rise" and get out. It's just the laws of nature.
ps. I don't think 70*C air will melt your windshield. Besides, it'll mix with the outside air at speed before it touches the glass.

in a street car, it all about looks. in a race car, it helps to cool the engine.

I don't know about other hoods, however J's Racing said their vented-cf hood cools the engine bay temps by 20 degrees F if that helps.

hmm wouldn't it be a problem if you drive in the rain?? the water just simply pour and pour on to whatever the vent is above. I like the stock hood, but I like J's carbon fiber hood more. If it was just for look 1400 (including shipping) seems a little too much for decoration.

One other benefit is that by venting the air to the top of the car rather than below, high-speed lift is reduced. However, it's probably negligible.
