I was wondering if there is a possibly the technician didnt hit the gas pedal while doing the compression test or something like that?

what is your fascination with him hitting the gas pedal for a compression test?'

Was told the correct way to do the test is to go WOT with the fuel pump fuse pulled and with it warmed up to operating temperature?

You are correct my friend that is the proper steps to take

I had mine tested by one shop recently and it was 180-ish across all cylinders. They said the engine was in great condition. Had another shop retest a couple weeks later, 220-ish. The second time was 4 cranks; I watched the gauge myself. It seems there are several variables (fuel pump fuse, engine temp, WOT, number of cranks, etc.) that need to be controlled in order to achieve numbers we can compare consistently. So, re-test it but whether it says 5 or 500, don't let the numbers get to ya.

Here's the FAQ for DIY compression testing.
