Default Very wierd! Please help

I have encountered this problem a few times now. Heres the scenerio. I'll try my best to explain everything in detail. This only happens sometimes.

okay 1st gear: I try to keep it in first gear until it gets close to 9k rpm as if i was racing... but the thing is when i only get up to about 6k rpm and the speed at this point is about 30mph, the engine jerks and doesnt go any faster as if it hit a limit of some sort.

so now i switched to 2nd gear and i'm doing about 40mph and around 50mph with rev up to about 6k it does it again. the car would jerk and i would switch to 3rd gear. i know that normally 2nd gear would go up to 60mph.

My tires are somewhat bald and i don't think i was peeling out. I know for sure i wasnt peeling out on 2nd gear.

I have a few mods:

cold air intake
and catback exhaust
coilovers
rims
and carbon fiber stuffs

any comments or hints would be very helpful.
thanks.

Sounds like the MAP sensor. Do a search on the MAP whack.

1st time i was driving for like an hour before i pushed the car and realized something was wrong

but

2nd time i noticed it. i just actually was in the car for like a min and decided to see if it would happen again..

come to think of it could it be because my car wasn't warmed up yet?

thanks for the quick reply.

The car has a cold rev limiter that will kick in at around 6K if the engine isn't sufficiently warmed up. This doesn't explain what you would experience this problem after an hour of driving, though.

After driving for a while, what does the temperature gauge read?

i think you are right! i have 3 bars on the temp meter after driving for awhile. for sure the 2nd time i just got out of work turned on my car and test the problem and sure happened again.

i must of been mistaken about driving around for an hour the first time the problem occured..

anyone else with any suggestions?

thanks dude.

First and foremost, if *ANYONE* were to suggest your description and say their engine had not warmed up...then my absolute 1st explanation would be that the fuel cut-out (rev limiter) was being kicked in by the computer (like the manual explains). Now, you've indicated that there have been times when you felt confident that the engine was warm. If so, then perhaps you're experiencing a faulty fuel pump.

In the past, I've experienced the herky-jerky conditions you've mentioned. Mine definitely were in a warmed (i.e. 3-bar) engine. My personal experience pointed to the necessity to replace my fuel pump. Although this was nicely covered while under warranty, I doubt the pump failed as a result of defect/malfunction. Rather it likely began failing due to too many times running the car with no fuel bars remaining. Our fuel pump can be terribly finicky about pumping air instead of fuel .

Here was my experience: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showt...86&hl=fuel+pump

Again...not at all to suggest this *is* what you problem is. But this was my own issue and it exhibited very similar characteristics to what you are describing.

Call me an upstart, lay into me as much as you like. I dont profess to being any where near even a junior lawnmower mechanic interms of my ability or knowledge!, but it fails me why someone with an obvious passion for the s2000 (the fact that you have one and the modifications that you have made), isn't aware of the cold engine rev limiter?!?!?!?

If only all issues were as simple to resolve

I agree though, this forum is good, i have been given good ideas, and it is good to hear others opinions. Enjoy the car, mines in the garage at the moment with a Missfire problem.

I know that this is slightly negative and not at all constructive, but i'm having a generally grumpy day. Sorry.
