Default vortech problems

Installed my vortech kit about 4 months ago and it seems to be working fine. The only upsetting thing is that I am going dead-lean on my A/F gauge at full throttle. I know that this is not good and I am unsure of what steps to take to correct this problem. Should I go with different plugs, bigger injectors, adj. fuel pressure regulator, stand-alone? Please help.-Thank-you.

I am unsure of what plugs Vortech recommends. I am running the stock S2000 NGKs. I do not have a header, but I do have an Invidia dual catback exhaust.

Check out your FMU. I had a similar problem, it was traced to he fmu. Vortech replaced it under warranty.

I never felt I had quality a/f control until I put in the AEM and uego controller.

The FMU is brand new, I had to order a new one because the one that came with the kit was bad. Anyone have any recommendations on what plugs to run with a vortech stock setup?

Run stock platinums...set your gap to 35 you can play with a bit, some people like a bit less some more but 35 seems to be the best gap.

Very interesting.I don't think changing you're sparkplugs is going to cure you're lean condition. How lean are we talking here?Im assuming you're using a wideband o2 sensor while on a dyno?I too had this condition with an s that i installed a vortech kit on.The problem turned out to be too many vacuum hoses connected to one vacuum port. You should only have the fuel management unit tied in with the factory fuel pressure regulator and nothing else. You will need to find an alternate vacuum source for the blow off valve and the ignition timing box. That should clear up you're lean condition, good luck!

This is very interesting. Can you elaborate? Why does having too many vacuum taps on the same line lean out the a/f? And where is an alternate that can be used?

Well xviper,i remember making a dyno a pass with a customers car after the install. This particular car was a myo2.This was going back 2 years ago.The car was registering an af ratio of 14.1 at full throttle across the board, much too lean for any forced induction application.I called vortech and they told me to eliminate the blow off valve and ignition timing box from the fmu.So i tried this and the car then registered an af ratio of 12.3 across the board. This was perfect.I tied the bov and timing box into the only other vacuum source, the little nipple above the number 4 runner tied into the evap system. To this day that car is running strong with zero issues.I used the knowledge from this install for my very own s2k.Now this is where things get interesting!I set up my s2k exactly the way this car was set up,down to the vacuum hose routing. It just so happens i just got back from the dyno with my car,and i was VERY surprised to see that my af ratio was 14.2 after 4.5k all the way to redline!WAY to lean!!!!Now i can either deal with vortech again(there customer service stinks!)or i can go and purchase a calibration kit and fix it myself.Needless to say im very disappointed with vortech at this point.

Unless the line was leaking I don't see how it was causing it to run lean. The BOV only works at closed throttle.

I had accurate MAP sensor readings at the timing controller installed with 2 T's on the same vaccuum line.

Spark plugs won't have any effect on the AF ratio.
