If you VTEC is not engaging in 1st gear...your car will struggle to get to 9k or not even make it there. So if you are having a smooth acceleration up to 9k your VTEC is kicking in.
Doesn't really struggle to make it to 9k in 1st, just doesn't have that "VTEC kick" to it like it does in the other gears. Kinda concerned that it burnt up that oil just by pressing this VTEC a little hard. Didn't burn nothin' until then.

1.) Try it at wide open throttle (floor it) and see if can feel it.

2.)I think the point at which VTEC engages can vary slighty. As far as what can keep VTEC from engaging, or what criteria must be met I found a thread on another forum that goes into it a little. I only scanned the first post so that's all I'm really talking about.

EDIT: I only point this out because my money is simply on the throttle position. Punch it in 1st, see if you feel it.
SenderGreen,

I see what you mean - seems as in 1st you just can't slowly push the throttle down and "poof" VTEC like you can in other gears! In my car at least it seems the times I have gotten VTEC in 1st, I've really mashed it down. Hmm...car also runs smoother and on-time activation in VTEC during nights. When it is hot during the day I have a time with VTEC delay by about 500k it seems.

if you bring it to 9k without full throttle...you won't feel a kick.

It's cooler at night. Cold air is more dense, thus contains more oxygen (I think that's right). For every 11 deg Fahrenheit the air temp drops you actually gain around 1 hp. That's all from memory, but i think that's how it goes.

yea it's all in throttle. if you just barely tap on gas and bring it to 9k you wont feel or hear shit but vtec is actually working. you only feel the kick and hear the loud ass noise when your throttle is more opened up making more air flow.

dense and cooler air at night does work very well with any type of engines out there.

dude, if your vtec didn't work, your motor would run like hell above 6.5k rpm's.

If it cracks and leaks out all the VTEC fluid...

[QUOTE=90crvtec,Jun 22 2007, 02:49 PM]Honda doesn't import the stuff anymore because it has been banned in the States.

I think he was talking about "not importing" the mythical VTEC fluid, not the solenoid.

And I agree with everyone that your VTEC is fine, you just need your butt dyno calibrated. Some Mexican food for dinner perhaps?
