Anybody using a Vtec controller? They were the big rage for the Gen5 Prelude owners. The unit actually had 2 functions:
1) control the vtec engagement point by sending a fake RPM signal the the ECU, thus theoritically engaging vtec at any rpm! I belive most people found the most power (butt-o-meter) by lowering it from 5500 -> 4400rpm.
2) Change the fuel curves by adding +- % of fuel at set points in the rpm range. This worked great initally, but the ecu compensated and negated the effects.
So, the vtec kicks in at 6000, perhaps lowering it to 5000 would make a tremendous difference? I mean realisticly speaking part of the reason the vtec point is so high is because of emissions. When I had my prelude, you just fiddled around with it until it felt right. eventually you found a good setting. The consesus was 4400 produced the best power.

There are a couple of others on this board (besides myself) using the Apexi V-AFC. 5600 RPM's seems to be the magic number for VTEC engagement, anything lower than that drops off during the transition. It does help out and it's nice to be able to trim fuel.
