Default VTEC kicking in late

noticed in the last week that VTEC kicks in around 7500 RPM. I have an 03 F20 motor with 35k miles on it, bone stock. VTEC has always kicked in around 6k RPM. I am using Mobil 1 10/30 and I'm getting close to 5000 miles on it. Would low oil cause this to happen? I suppose I could just change the oil and see what happens. Would loss in oil viscosity cause this? Thanks.

Consider a tune up, make sure you have enough oil but vtec is oil pressure sensitive. Also consider a map wack. Also make sure your vtec silinoid screen is clean. You can search for this stuff and maybe get more idea's.

thanks....it looks like the oil is low, so I'll try an oil change as I'm close to due anyways. If that doesn't work I'll try the MAP whack idea, then go on to the solenoid. I don't think this is a plug related issues as I'm only at 35k miles. I'm probably close to due for a valve adjustment as well, but I want to do things one at a time and in order of simplicity to understand what is going on.

Check your oil regularly!. You're lucky you don't have a go fishing for a new engine.

This car will go through oil faster then most, espeically with Mobil 1. I would check it each time (or skip one) when you fill up the tank

this is why I don't use M1 anymore. Ever since they reforumulated it, it really thins out over time and wear.

Mobile1 FTL

Yours valves shouldn't need adj. @ that low miles, so that shouldn't be an issue...

As said oil level first, then MAP whack/upgrade next.

yeah I was checking it pretty religiously when I bought the car around 26k miles. I had an oil change when I bought it with Mobil 1. Then I had another at 31k with mobil 1 again. I haven't checkd the oil much because it seemed I was one of the lucky people with an AP1 that didn't drink oil. Now I see that might not be the case. I will change the oil and report back on this thread. Thanks for the ideas everyone.
