Default Vtec not engaging

Hey guys,

So i had my a new headgasket installed.... they finally finished the install tonight...

First off, the VTEC solenoid is leaking... about 1 drop per 20 seconds...

i have been babying the car to make sure the coolant system has fully bled, so i finally opened up the car on low boost and as soon as vtec was supposed to hit (which is 5800rpms) the car starting sputtering, almost like i had hit a rev-limiter.... Does anyone have any experience with this problem, as i have pretty much had it, at this point...

I'm guessing its either the VTEC solenoid, or maybe he didnt put in all the pins on the rockers?

Fix the leaking VTEC solenoid.

Make sure all the rocker pins are installed correctly.

Not to state the obvious, but any reason it wouldn't be the standard cold-rev limiter?

the car was fully warmed up...

I will have a look at the Vtec solenoid tomorrow and see whats going on....

to have a look at the pins, do you need to remove the entire rocker arms?

if this matters, the car is turbo as well

You need to remove the cams to check the rocker arms.

Buy a new Rocker arm assembly. Or find where the missing one is.

It is very easy for the pins to slide out during rocker assy removal. I don't think that's the problem based on your description, but I guess anything is possible with the EMS.

I'd start wil a new VTEC valve gasket like Slows2k said. 15825-PCX-005.

Run the car with the heat on high. Make sure you have good hot heat (cooling system bled)

Keep adding to the radiator when the car is cold, till is stops needing it.

Yea I would check the vtec solenoid for voltage and check the screens and stop the leak. The pins will be an all day affair if you have the proper time and patience.

Thanks Bill, slow and chef... i will take apart the vtec solenoid and see if putting it back together helps as well as ordering a new gasket...

Could this be a grounding issue? as the mechanic also had an issue with getting the car to spark and have fuel... He didnt put the G101 ground on... I am not sure if he put the grounded it to the original location as well... so i guess we shall see... also, my modifry is saying i have 6 bars, even when it is cool.... i tried moving the ground around, but it is still giving false readings... i wonder if i should leave this part for a different thread?
