Default vtec not working right

just this morning i felt a little speed needy
(havnt really gone to vtec no more then 4 times in my 4 weeks of ownership)
on factor, i didnt warm up all the way

so im in 2nd gear around 20 and i press the gas, gradually increasing pressure
and got to about 6500-7000 rpm (around where it kicks in)
the engine got loud as normal, but my car didnt go fast.. in fact it slowed down

now i tried it again after warming my car up fully.. same thing
i dont hold on the gas after this happens cus i fear something bad (if it hasnt happned already) might happen.. or get worse

it drives just the same when driving normally
but vtec is somewhat .. i dont know.. choking.. or getting strangled when ingaged

any input on this problem?

i ran a search on this, but nothing was as specific a problem as this
maybe a few suggestions on this i followed, such as checking the oil and also checking how much is in there...
i also got that sick feeling a piston ring might be busted or warped.. or a bearing or something.. i seriously hope its nothing like that
if the type of gas i run has anything to do with it.. since my ownership i only run shell V power in it.. only put 2000 miles on it (alot in 4 weeks, constant chicago trips, piss me off as much as seing this amount of miles added)

^read his post

he said that the same thing happens when fully warmed.

ontop of this, the cars rev limiter will be reduced to 6000rpm but he mentioned he got to 7000.

It wouldn't be a 'piston ring' as such because you would know it, your car wouldn't be runnign right, idling right and you would have smoke coming out of the exhaust and all sorts of noises/dramas.

are their any CEL's running?

Did you have any mod's done to the car since you got it?

does the car run perfectly normal BEFORE vtec or does the problem occur through the whole rev range?

what do you mean by 'choking' and 'slowing down' does it rev smoothly but slowly? does it jerk and sputter?

well, no i havnt done any mods.. dont really plan on it. if anything ill go dual F1 exhaust

im a noob, i have no idea what a "CEL" is.. im sorry

my car runs very well driving through any range
its just when i get to vtec, the car slows down rather then speed up
kind of like if you down shifted to slow down your car. just not as intense
if you down shifted

i used "choking" as an expression of my car doing the opposite of what
vtec allows it to achieve.. or at least, maybe not engaging completely.. i dont know.. i havnt owned anything vtec untill now, so my knowledge is in the dumps pretty much

for the complete rev, as soon as i feel the car slow down during vtec RPM range i let go of the gas and switch gears immediatly.. not letting it follow through the rest of the rpm's.. i honestly fear if i keep the gas on it, something bad could happen

thank you for replying so quickly

Do you remember it going into vtec normally (to 9000 rpm) before?

You mentioned you allready checked the oil level.
Next thing to do IMO is a MAP wack.
(easy to find with a search, its in the DIY on top of UTH too IIRC)
There is a filter screen behind the vtec solenoid assembly that may be the cause.
Air filter is ok?

MAP wack is first thing to do though.

I had that problem, turned out my clutch was slipping bad at the higher rpms, thus not engaging the vtec for some reason.
