Unhappy VTEC not working... sometimes

I need some thoughts here, my engine will sometimes will not rev past 7k and sometimes it will rev to 9k flawlessly. I've checked the oil screen in the Vtec solenoid and itl ooked pretty clean. Not really sure what's going on maybe electrical? Could this be valve clearance related? Any help will be appreciated, Thanks.

So this happens when the engine isn't fully hot correct ?

These engines are smart enough to save the drivers from themselves, lol, j/k

Possibly my temp gauge was at 2 bars at the time which it usually runs around 2-3 bars for normal operating conditions for me. You probably are spot on though ill have to see if it only does it only when its cold next time I take it for a spin.

Don't try to rev it that high when cold unless absolutely necessary, it will cause a lot more wear than needed.

Yeah I just always thought 2 bars was warm but I could be wrong or my thermostat is opening early.

Bar or no bar dont pay attention to that. I typically drive normally 10mins normally before revving into vtec range. Make sure oils are warm.

The oil takes a good while longer to heat up so even when you hit 3bars there is 5-10min until oil has reached same temp.

Engine needs to be at operating temperature for VTEC to function. Takes roughly 5 to 10 minutes on mine where 8-bars is the normal reading on the later instrument panel. 'Bout 1/3 up on the display.

Does your car get to 3 bars on the gauge ? that is the proper operating temp when you can be revving to redline.
