Hopefully you guys can help me,Ive done the search button as some of you might advise..and i came up with a couple that may be related to mine.My S currently has 38k miles,I recently changed my Oil w/ Mobil 1 5w30 synthetics for free, My friend changed it for free.Is it true that switching to a synthetic affects VTEC engagement?..Oil level is Perfect right below the F mark just checked it today..i poured some Valvoline Complete Fuel System Cleaner as well and changed my Differential fluid w/ Mobil1 75w90 other than that nothing has been done yet my car absolutely lost its VTEC feel after 6krpms?? really worried..I also read some threads by XViper regarding VTEC solenoids and Map Sensors, what does he mean by thumping/whacking the sensor or solenoids? if ever these are the problems how much normally dealership chrage for parts/install?..i want to make sure before i do some actions on my car..
I do know that VTEC engagement is dependent on oil pressure...
and using 5w oil, Especially mobil 1 syn, which is very thin already will lower oil pressure quite a bit. I say get that 5w out of that engine and get 10 or 15w.
I use mobil 1 15.50, and I think its a bit thick.
VTEC is great, (and my car has almoast 80K) but I hear slightly more valve noise in the morning compaired to the 10W30 I just switched from.
Some owners have reported that going to synthetic, especially 5W30, may cause the typical VTEC "surge" to be less apparent. I, for one, have not noticed this when I change to Mobil 1 5W30 in the winter months. This was even before I had the S/C on. I felt that VTEC was unaffected when I went to this oil.
Although you shouldn't reset the ECU just because you "feel" like it, if you are definately sure that your VTEC is not quite the same, go ahead and do it: http://forums.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=183490
(Refer to the procedure for resetting the CEL.)

What follows should be taken with a HUGE grain of salt.
Here is the VTEC solenoid:
It's that cylindrical thing with the tiny red dot on it, just left of center. Notice that there are a couple of wiring harnesses running into that area. Make sure both are well coupled and secure. Although your car really can't be considered high mileage, I suppose if you have been somewhat negligent with regards to oil and filter changes, your VTEC solenoid oil filter screen may have something that is clogging it. This filter screen is located between that solenoid and the engine. I doubt this is it but I thought I'd throw this in here for your consideration.
Overall, "butt dyno" impressions can be misleading. Don't go doing anything drastic to your car in search of a cure when there may not be anything wrong. Wait till you go back to 10W30 and see if you feel any difference. It is too premature right now to say that something is wrong with car or your oil.

Damn Xviper, thanks a lot you're instructions are GREAT,down to the last detail..Really appreciate your help..i just whacked the Map Sensor and reset the ECU like whats shown on on your thread to see if it made any difference..guess what it did..Its crazy that something that lil work can do to the car,I noticed the VTEC surged back after 6k rpm OMG,you saved my life.. ..funnny thing is as soon as i was test drivin it earlier,a black stock lookin SRT4 was tryin to race me,didnt took the bite and just let him pass ,not sure if VTEC will hit thats why..oh well thanx again
