Ok i have a 2001 s2000 with the ap2 swap. just got the car not too long ago, and this is twice now that this has happened. i drive the car, vtec kicks in fine, i went to race a crx the other day, and after about the 3rd go at it on the highway, vtec just shits the bed, it bounces off vtec almost as if im hitting a governer, almost feels like engine brake, i know if you dont let the s2ks warm up to running temp it wouldnt work, so i let it warm up yesterday and tried racing my buddies m3 and the same thing happened? any ideas?

 

i had somewhat of the same problem...mine didnt act like it hit a rev limiter but it just bogs out when i would hit vtec...it was problems with the map sensor for me...check the threads about it there are alot of write up ....but i dont know if that affects an AP2 like my AP1

 

Oil starvation....

 

checked the oil, level is fine. also wondering if maybe it has something to do with the iac solenoid? im pretty sure its bad because when i come to a stop light or stop the car in traffic (once car is warmed up) it drops low on idle and occasionally even stalls. would that have anything to do with it?

ecu?
Motor?

 

21,000 on the motor, 59,000 on the car, ap2 swap is the motor out of an 04 (which is the ap2 series) and its a 2001. im calling the guy who sold it to me now to make sure he did the ecu too, just humbled on why vtec works sometimes and then just doesnt, and if i turn the car off after it starts not working, it works fine again? no check engine light thrown.

 

My friend had the same problem.. It was the oil.. He had a leak crack in the head

 

well he said the ecu was changed as well, gonna change the oil today and see if that helps
