Unhappy Waterspots INSIDE taillights

Hey guys,

I noticed that I have water spots inside my taillights. Somehow water must be getting into them during regular washings.

Does anyone else have this problem? Can I just pop off the plastic outer lense on the taillights and clean it up?

They are really small spots... like a tiny bit of condensation is forming inside the lights and then drying out leaving behind the hard water minerals.

Thanks

I had the same problem... don't open the tail lights.. it's a real PITA and you might risk that the lens cracks. Your car is a MY 04 so why don't you just get it replaced under warranty?

Just curious, either of you guys using a pressure washer or 'touchless' drive drive through car wash? the taillight housings shouldn't leak even if you are (but don't tell the guys in 'Wash &Wax' I said that.
I agree with having Honda repair/replace them under warantee.

well, I've come to the conclusion that the '04 tail lights are much more likely to leak then the 00-03 models which in my opinion is mainly due to the way they are designed\assembled. I fixed mine ( I have a MY 02 retrofitted with 04 tail lights) with some clear silicone applied with a siringe in the space that is between the lens and the black casing and after that no more leaks or condensation inside

I try to avoid pressure washes and if i'm forced to wash it that way, I always make sure to keep a good distance from the tail lights and the pressure nozzle.. it's a good rule also for the rubber seals and the headlights.

Hope this helps

The gasket behind the light is kind of cheesy. You might pull the light out and see if the gasket was installed properly. I likely gets in between the light and the gasket or the gasket and the sheet metal.

One suggestion though. Don't try to fix the spots. Just fix the leak and leave them there. It is very hard to get to them and you will likely ruin the light trying. I speak from experience.

blah maybe I'll try to get them replaced under warranty. Then I'll seal the new lights properly and hope it doesn't leak again.

And no I've NEVER taken my car to an automatic wash nor had a pressure washer anywhere near the taillights?

When I first got it I used to wash it real frequently... probably 2-3 times a week at least. Now it's almost every 2 weeks or more

Take them out, and seal them with the silicone if your not going to replace them under warranty, but, to dry them out, borrow your girlfriends hair dryer and blow it through one of the holes where the bulb goes in, it will dry it out in a minute, if you dont the stagnant water will keep coming back and eventually stain the inside of the casing.
