Default Is this a normal problem or should I be worried?

Hi there,

Here in Oklahoma, we have ridiculously cold mornings. For the past couple weeks now, I've been having really weak starts. The first time I start it in the morning (around 5 am), I'll press the button and it sounds like the engine is really struggling to turn over. I find myself having to hold the button for a really long time. Later on in the day, the starts are of random levels of weakness. Most of the time, they're significantly less weak but there are times when they're also very weak and others when they're not weak at all.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like your battery is on it's last leg.

Yep... you have a MY00. If the battery is the one that came with the car, I wouldn't be surprised if it's on its way out. I'd get it replaced just to be safe.

I'm going to edit your title so it is more descriptive.

I'd first go with the battery thing that has been mentioned. However, you might also have a slightly out of spec or "lazy" MAP sensor. Do the "MAP whack" - use the rubber end of a screwdriver and thump the top of the MAP sensor several times. Then unclip the wiring harness and wiggle it back on vigorously. This may help to clean the contacts. You might also have slightly dirty injectors. Do you do any injector maintenance like adding a bottle injector cleaner at every oil change? If not, an '00 would be getting a pretty piss-poor injector spray by now.
Additionally, your fuel pump may not be pumping as strongly as it should. To test this out, next time before you crank the car, cycle the fuel pump twice before hitting the start button. Turn the key full ON and wait for the fuel pump to pressure up. Then turn it OFF and back ON again, let the fuel pump do its thing (takes about 3-5 seconds), THEN crank. See if this helps.

Sounds like a battery for sure. If your car is a 2000 model year and you've never replaced the battery then it's time. The fact that it happens on cold mornings is very telling.

We can set you up with a new high-efficiency lightweight battery here http://marketplace.s2ki.com/s2ki/customer/...76&cat=6&page=1

Hi Mario,

Sounds like too many deep cycles from all that audio equipment you are powering

Unless you have become less of an audio enthusiast,
I would not recommend a Hawker. Are you are still using those high power amps to drive that crazy system of yours?

Yes, good point. If you are using bigtime audio equipment in the car I would not use the Hawker battery either.

I actually pulled an amp so the Hawker would have less strain. My priorities have been positively influenced by my new *GF* Crack-pipe addiction.

Good. Too much weight adds slowness.

I've actually only turned on my stereo a couple times since my S got to Oklahoma. Here in the middle of nowhere, this car already gets too much attention just standing still

Anyhow, I'll go ahead and perform that battery switch...thanks

BTW, I've only got 820 total RMS watts on my system. That's pretty tame as big, bad audio setups go...

[Edit] And I'll get started on decoding and performing the rest of this as soon as possible
