Weak engine start - Is this a normal problem or should I be worried?

I'd also have to concur with others that it's the battery. I noticed the same thing but left it until it was too late and I needed roadside assistance.

I replaced it with a Heavy Duty warrantied Honda battery.

Nice battery to save weight, but a poor choice for someone wanting stock cold cranking amps. I know you want to move product, but I think that b0mbrman would be better off with a standard size battery that will cost less and produce more power for cold starts.

Anyhow, I'll go ahead and perform that battery switch...thanks

BTW, I've only got 820 total RMS watts on my system. That's pretty tame as big, bad audio setups go...
Thats it ONLY 820 watts? I had 600 watts, until last weekend, and I think I have suffered some form of hearing loss

When are you coming back to Cali?

Actually, the Hawker battery can deliver more current for starting than an equivalent stock battery replacement.

That was my point. At 675 amps for 5 seconds, the Hawker far exceeds the ability to crank a high compression motor at starting time than the stock battery or replacements. If you need to sit there and keep your finger on the button for more than 5 seconds then there might be other issues besides cold that are affecting the engine's ability to start. Maybe if it was 0 degrees F and the car had been sitting for a week but somehow I don't see that being the case in OK.

I don't do Solo II so I don't concern myself with that metric

Thanks for the link.

Ok...so I'm shopping the local car stores and notice that each different battery has a rating for cold cranking amps and cranking amps.

Now given my car's starting needs and the amount of draw my stereo requires, is there any way I can calculate which battery I should buy?

I think you will be restricted by the size limitations of what battery we can put into the holder. Any battery of the size limit will be restricted to hold much cold cranking amps and overall energy storage it can achieve. If you are putting in a "high zoot" sound system, you might even consider looking into adding a second battery installed outside of the engine bay (maybe in the trunk).

ps. I am about to install my Hawker battery into my car. I don't expect any problems over the coming summer season and I'll certainly report on how it does when next winter shows itself with its -35*C temps.

Cool. I'm looking forward to that cold weather data. Not many opportunities for that testing out here.
