Sounds like a warped rotor.

More information about the condition of the brakes and your braking/driving habits will help you get better answers.

I just helped a new friend change the rotors on his car because it had a shudder after a track weekend.

Here's a primer from StopTech on the myth of rotor warping.

StopTech Rotor Warp Myth
that's a good read for several reasons

Well technically, although pad material deposited on the rotor. Think about it and you can see why someone would feel that they are warped.

Higher points + lower points = feels warped.

Yes it might behave as one would imagine a warped rotor would behave, but if it were truly warped instead of suffering from some 0.001" magnitude deposits, the cure would be A LOT different. How many shops turn rotors down by 0.010 or more? If these tiny cementite spots are not visible to the naked eye, how much you turn a rotor is simply a matter of chance.

Interesting that no one alleging "warped rotors" ever put a dial indicator on the rotor and discovered that it was, in fact, not warped.

That's a great article on brakes!!!

The only thing I want to point out from the StopTech article is that he mentions the rotors being tightened uniformly, and to the proper torque spec.

I know for a fact that no shop I have ever encountered hand torques wheels when they are put back on. Much less to the proper torque spec. They grab the old impact wrench, and zing them on as tight as they can get em. When I've requested they be hand torqued....I get the argument that they have the devices that stops the gun when it gets to the proper torque, but IF they are really using them....they don't work.

I've had words with several techs and shop managers when I while still in the parking lot....pull out the breaker bar and torque wrench and show them how uneven and over torqued they are.

Uneven, and over torque on the lugs will cause a rotor to warp.

While I don't discount that there are a lot of cases of what feels like rotor warp due to uneven material being transfered to the rotor, in the general consumer realm I'm sure just as many if not more are due to the rotors being over torqued, or not torqued uniformly.

Just my $.02
