Default Weird hesitation on start

Scenario: The car starts up fine on cold start. After driving for a bit and letting it sit for a couple of hours, starting it again is hard. That is, pressing the START button initiates the starter sequence but immediately cuts and the car won't start. Usually, pressing the START button a second time will make it go. Any ideas as to why this happens? The car is an '07 with about 25k miles.

when the engine turns over does it sound like it is turning over slowly, or does it seem to spin at a reasonable speed ?. I recently noticed that my engine was turning over slower when the engine was hot, perhaps being weakened by heat from the header. I changed my battery and it now turns over quicker and starts better. My battery wasn't very old, but there was a difference in how fast it started between cold and hot conditions.
