Quick question, I was doing the valve adjustment and my friend was reading off the DIY to me and unfortunately there was a misunderstanding about direction of the pulley lol. I went counter clock wise, and went 1 3 4 2. And now I got a loud ticking noise, that SHOULD be the cause of my ticking noise right. I'm 99.99% sure it is but I want another opinion. I'll start again in the morning when my car is cool, and there is more light.

 

Look at the lobes when you adjust as the should be on the round area and not the off round side

 

Do it over. All the valves, dont drive it like that just incase they are too tight, by the sounds of it they are too loose.

Dont chance it.

make sure the motor is stone cold too...do not adjust them if theres any kind of heat in the motor

 

Yeah figured I dodged a bullet. I've done a million valve adjustments before but never went the wrong direction. Only thing different is I had my friend read off the DIY lol.

I would re-do it. I'm surprised you could get a feeler gauge under the adjustment area unless the cam lobs were in the proper position. If you were turning the crank and stopping when the cam lobes were in the proper position you were probably fine, but you better check it again.

 

It shouldn't make a difference which way you go as long as the valve you are adjusting has no pressure on it from the cam, maybe someone can comment... As long as the cam lobe is pointing up and out you are fine. I always found the manual instructions over complicated that process.Can anyone comment on negative effects of spinning the motor backwards?
