Could someone please let me know what metal they are made of?...I am planning on painting them with the G2 system and would like to sand/grind some of the casting marks off. ...Or is this a bad idea?

Just cast iron. A number of us cleaned them up with a grinder before finishing.. no problem.

Yes take them off and grind down the line where the molds meet. You'll see what I am talking about...
