I can also shift from 123456, and 654321, without the clutch. Only because I've worked on cars all my life,
im not saying that i will go and try it then blame you for making me do it because i wont! anyone who may do that is
anyway if you could make a vid that would be cool

i have a question, i know it's bad to skip gears in an s2k because of synchro issues, but what if u double clutched while skipping gears? letting off the clutch in neutral as to keep the synchros from being over worked
just curious

I think this would work. The main issue is giving the transmission time to slow down to the same speed as what it would be after a skip shift. If you go to neutral, let the clutch out while the engine has idled down, then a skip shift should be OK.
Though I've never had any grinding sound (or feel) when shifting, I have had occasional trouble shifting OUT of 5th gear. Then, about a month ago I couldn't shift into 5th. I pulled the transmission out of the car and took it apart. The 5/6 synchronizer looked just like xviper's picture at the beginning of this thread -- though the flat ends of my 5/6 synchro ring may have been mushroomed even more than those in xviper's photo!
I got a new synchronizer set from Honda and installed it in my tranny. Things finally got bolted together today and all seems to work OK. I had refilled the tranny using GM Synchromesh Friction Modified, and shifting now seems smoother than before, so I expect that things are restored.
All that said, I'm fairly frosted by the whole affair. I've been driving stick shifts for about 50 years now and have never damaged one before. I generally get at least 100k miles on a clutch. While I do race the car, I don't abuse the transmission -- I always use the clutch and generally match revs fairly well, both upshifting and down. Yet the 5/6 synchro was totally trashed.
Other than not skipping gears when shifting this marginally-constructed transmission, does anyone have other suggestions to prolong its operating life?
Thanks,
Hans
